Features

A slideshow app that respects your photos

Everything you need to put your favourite photos on a big screen — and nothing that sends them somewhere else.

Works offline

Install slideshow.photos as an app and it keeps working with no connection. Playing slideshows and managing your library never need the internet. Only importing from Google Photos does.

Google Photos, on your terms

Pick photos with Google’s own Photos Picker. slideshow.photos only gets access to the photos you choose, never the rest of your library.

Full-screen formats

Sliding Panels arranges photos into a fresh collage every few seconds, matched to each panel’s shape. Floating lets photos drift past at different depths. Crossfade keeps it simple.

Processed on your device

Photos are resized in your browser, rotated the right way up, and stripped of all metadata, including GPS location. Nothing is uploaded.

Light on storage

Photos are saved as screen-sized WebP copies, so 1,000 photos take a few hundred MB (roughly 250–500 MB) at the default setting. Originals aren’t kept unless you ask.

Local files and folders

Select many photos at once or a whole folder, including HEIC photos from iPhones. Build as many collections as you like and add or remove photos anytime.

Start a slideshow

Free, in your browser. Nothing to install first.

Full-screen playback

Made for the big screen

Put slideshow.photos on a TV, a spare monitor or a laptop at a party. Controls and the cursor hide when idle, and the screen stays awake while the slideshow plays.

Sliding Panels

A collage of up to six photos, each matched to the shape of its panel so little is cropped. It holds still, then the panels slide away to black and a new layout slides in. Choose how long each layout stays, the gap between photos and how often a single photo fills the screen.

Floating

Photos drift across the screen at different depths, nearer ones larger and faster. If your system’s “reduce motion” setting is on, slideshow.photos switches to a gentle crossfade automatically.

Your settings

  • Interval — how long each photo or layout stays on screen
  • Transition speed — quick and snappy or slow and calm
  • Shuffle — a new order every time
  • Fit — show the whole photo, or fill the screen over a blurred backdrop

How it works

From photos to slideshow in three steps

  1. Add your photos

Choose photos or a whole folder from your computer, or pick photos from Google Photos. Add or remove photos anytime, and keep as many collections as you like.

  2. slideshow.photos prepares them on your device

Each photo is resized for your screen, turned the right way up and stripped of metadata, then saved in your browser. Pick Screen-fit, High (2560px) or 4K (3840px) quality.

  3. Press play

Go full-screen and enjoy. It works offline from then on: install slideshow.photos as an app and your slideshows are ready even with no connection.

Privacy

Your photos never leave your device

slideshow.photos is a set of static files that runs in your browser. There’s no slideshow.photos server to upload to, no account and no analytics.

What happens to your photos

  • Processed on your device. Resizing and conversion happen in your browser, not in the cloud.
  • Stored only on this device, in your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB). Delete a collection, or clear this site’s data, and the copies are gone.
  • Metadata removed. Saved copies have all metadata stripped, including GPS location.
  • Originals aren’t kept unless you choose to keep them.
  • No analytics, no tracking, no ads.

The Google permission we ask for, and why

Importing from Google Photos uses Google’s Photos Picker and asks for one read-only permission:photospicker.mediaitems.readonly. It lets slideshow.photos download only the photos you select in the picker, so it can make local copies. It can’t see, change or delete anything else in your library.

You only sign in with Google while importing. The access token lasts about an hour, is kept in memory only and is never saved. You can also remove access anytime from your Google Account settings.

Launch app

Local photos need no sign-in at all.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is slideshow.photos free?

Yes. slideshow.photos is free. There’s no account to create, no subscription and no ads.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Photos are processed on your device and stored in your browser’s local storage (IndexedDB). slideshow.photos has no server that receives your photos, and there are no analytics or tracking.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. After your first visit, slideshow.photos works offline, and you can install it as an app. Playing slideshows and managing collections work with no connection. Importing from Google Photos needs one.

What can slideshow.photos see in my Google account?

Only the photos you pick. slideshow.photos uses Google’s Photos Picker with the read-only photospicker.mediaitems.readonly permission, which grants access to the photos you select and nothing else. You only sign in while importing, and the access token is short-lived (about an hour) and kept in memory, never saved.

How much storage does it use?

At the default Screen-fit quality (sized to your display, up to 2560px), 1,000 photos take roughly 250–500 MB, depending on your screen and the photos. The High (2560px) and 4K (3840px) tiers use more. Originals are not kept unless you turn that on.

Which photo formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and HEIC/HEIF, including photos straight from an iPhone. Each photo is turned the right way up and its metadata, including GPS location, is removed.

How do I leave full-screen?

Press Esc once to leave full-screen while the slideshow keeps playing in the window. Press Esc again to stop. Space pauses, the arrow keys move between photos, and on touch screens you can swipe.

What if I’ve turned on “reduce motion”?

slideshow.photos respects your system setting and automatically uses a gentle crossfade instead of the sliding and floating formats.
